Reporting to the Manager of Admissions & Foster, the Foster Facilitator is responsible for the recruitment, screening, and training of Foster Parents as well as coordination of foster animals in and out of foster homes.

Thursday to Monday I 37.5 hours per week 

Rotating shifts of 9AM-5PM & 11AM-7PM 

Duties:

• Responsible for the recruitment, retention, and recognition of foster families
• Coordinate orientation and training for all foster families
• Ensure all animals requiring foster care are placed in a timely manner
• Provide day-to-day support to all active foster families in person, on-site, by phone, and e-mail
• Maintain records and administrative requirements of all animals and foster families in the Foster Program:
• Electronic records, paper files, training records, foster animal paperwork, cage cards, collars, personality profiles, behaviour notes, etc.
• Checking in with foster parents when needed and keeping a working inventory of all animals in foster homes
• Ensure privacy standards are upheld at all times
• Promote strong working relationships between staff and foster families
• Establish and provide effective means of communication for foster families
• Maintain the recognition program for foster parents and be active in the planning and execution of the annual Volunteer and Foster Parent Appreciation Party
• Coordinate daily maintenance and cleaning of the foster office and supply storage
• Practice, promote and encourage engagement and involvement with all foster volunteers and volunteers at CHS. 
• Ensure effective communication between all departments
• Respond to public inquiries about the Foster Program
• Assist in other areas of the shelter when required, including the feeding, cleaning, and enrichment of shelter animals
• Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements: 

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum one-year experience in a supervisory/leadership position required

Reporting to the Manager of Community Outreach & Events, the Community Outreach & Events Coordinator is an outgoing and community-minded individual who represents Calgary Humane Society through community engagement initiatives. This role works collaboratively with CHS’ Humane Education, Adoptions, Communications, Volunteer Resources and Engagement, and Fund Development teams to deliver exceptional community experiences while advancing the mission and values of CHS.

This role is well suited for someone who enjoys a balance of planning and executing events, engaging with the public, building partnerships, and contributing ideas that expand CHS’s community presence. Successful candidates are comfortable with the hands-on nature of event work and take pride in representing CHS with professionalism, enthusiasm, and compassion.

Duties:

• Coordinate and support the planning, logistics, promotion, and execution of community outreach and third-party fundraising initiatives that advance CHS's mission and community impact.
• Represent Calgary Humane Society at community events and outreach initiatives, engaging with members of the public and sharing information about CHS programs, services, volunteer opportunities, and animals available for adoption.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with community members, corporate partners, sponsors, volunteers, and third-party fundraisers to support CHS's mission and strategic goals.
• Assist third-party fundraisers by providing guidance, resources, promotional support, and event materials to help ensure successful outcomes.
• Prepare for and execute outreach events, including loading, transporting, setting up, dismantling, and maintaining event equipment, supplies, and promotional materials.
• Maintain CHS outreach vehicles, event inventory, supplies, records, and program statistics to ensure operational readiness and accurate reporting.
• Foster a positive volunteer experience by supporting volunteer engagement, recognition, communication, and teamwork at outreach events.
• Support Humane Education presentations, community events, and other organizational initiatives as required.

• Ability to repeatedly bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and load equipment into and out of vehicles throughout a shift.

Position Title:

Behaviour & Animal Care Support Associate – Full Time

37.5 hours per week

The Behaviour & Animal Care Support Associate is an entry-level position designed to support the implementation of animal behaviour and enrichment plans while maintaining high standards of daily care. With the primary focus on executing training and behaviour support strategies under the direction of the Behaviour Team, this role also supports general animal care responsibilities. It provides a guided pathway for individuals with limited experience to develop skills in animal handling, observation, and behavioural support within a shelter setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Behaviour Support (approx. 60%):

·         Carry out individualized behaviour and training plans as outlined by the Behaviour Team, including clicker training, enrichment routines, kennel routines, and behaviour modification exercises.

·         Observe and document animal behaviour during training and enrichment sessions, reporting progress and challenges through established systems.

·         Assist in preparing and delivering daily enrichment, mental stimulation, and stress reduction strategies for animals in care.

·         Participate in Behaviour Rounds and shadow assessments to learn foundational behaviour concepts.

·         Monitor for signs of stress, fear, frustration, and success in training plans, escalating concerns to Behaviour staff.

·         Support safe, low-stress handling practices under supervision, using desensitization and positive reinforcement methods as trained.

Animal Care (approx. 30%):

·         Assist with daily cleaning, feeding, and monitoring of assigned kennels and animals, particularly for those on behaviour plans.

·         Ensure kennels are set up with appropriate enrichment and that housing supports the behaviour and welfare needs of the animal.

·         Support animal moves and transitions that intersect with behavioural goals (e.g., reducing fear during transfers).

·         Communicate welfare observations with the Animal Care Team and Behaviour Team to support holistic animal support.

Learning & Development (approx. 10%):

·         Participate in structured mentorship and training from both the Behaviour and Animal Care departments.

·         Attend onboarding and ongoing training in animal body language, fear-free handling, enrichment planning, and behaviour theory.

·         Build a foundational skillset that prepares for advancement into Behaviour Technician, Animal Care Specialist, or Foster Support roles.

·         Engage in regular development check-ins with assigned Behaviour mentors.

Position Requirements:

• Minimum high school diploma.
• KPA-CTP, CPDT-KA, or IAABC accreditation preferred.
• Minimum one year of professional, volunteer, or hands-on animal care experience (e.g., veterinary clinic, shelter, boarding facility).

The Behaviour Outreach Facilitator’s primary role is to facilitate Calgary Humane Society’s educational, training, and community outreach programs. These programs aim to build community awareness around positive reinforcement training methods, animal behaviour concerns, and responsible pet ownership while fostering empathy and compassion for the animals in our community.

• Assist internal operations by performing training duties as assigned by the Director of Community Services & Pathway Planning or shelter trainers, including supporting staff with training plans or assisting in class delivery
• Provide high-quality client service by responding to behaviour inquiries, assisting with the behaviour helpline, and directing clients to appropriate resources
• Maintain positive relationships with contract trainers, class participants, and community partners
• Support departmental administration, including updating manuals, processes, and behaviour handouts as directed
• Assist with event and program promotion in collaboration with Marketing and Communications staff
